Country Village garden

A garden marrying a love story with long-term plans

I was recommended to F & W, after they had received an eye-watering quote to redesign their large village garden. The space had been stripped back by the previous owners, leaving them with a blank canvas punctuated only by a few mature trees—an opportunity to imagine something entirely their own.
This project comes with two distinct objectives:

Planting for a June wedding

The first is immediate: they are getting married in June and will be hosting their reception at home, so the garden needs to look beautiful and welcoming for their celebrations.

Planting for the future

  • The second design objective is longer‑term: F & W want a design that will mature over time.
  • Their dog is very much part of their family, so the garden must remain open, safe, and enjoyable for him. They also plan to add a building at the rear of the garden in the future, so the layout needs to anticipate that development. Above all, they want to transform the view from their living space to meet the standard of their beautiful home.

The Design Process

Having agreed the brief, my next steps included researching hedge options, creating a list of June-flowering plants for the front borders and to surround the terrace. My client sent me images of flowers in her bridal bouquet, so I have chosen carefully to complement the colour palette. Using precise measurements, I created a scale planting plan for planting immediately.
