Design fees

I charge £250 per day for design work. The cost of a design depends on the size of your garden and how much detail you need. I’ve broken the process down into stages to give an approximation of overall cost. You may not need all of the steps and you can stop at any point if you feel you have what you need.

Fees in detail

Initial ideas meeting – £100. I’ll view your garden on a one-off basis and give you initial ideas about planting and structure for a fee of £100. This can be deducted from the cost of a concept design if you’d like me to develop the ideas further. 

Concept design – £500. I’ll create a broad outline of the design and meet with you in person to discuss the plans. This usually comes to around £500 for a small garden (less than 100 square metres). Larger gardens take longer so cost more, but can be broken down into smaller areas if preferable. The concept design will give you a good idea of the style and structure of your future garden. It’s usually drawn by hand on an iPad as a bird’s-eye view design. 

Full layout design – £750. The next step is a full layout design drawn to scale – this costs around £750 for a small garden or garden area. This involves taking accurate measurements of the garden then translating the concept design to a scale drawing for landscapers to use. The output is a 2-dimensional line drawing usually done on graph paper. 

Planting plan – around £500 for a small garden. If you need help choosing the plants for your design I can create a planting plan for you. A planting plan can be commissioned independently of design work if you want to refresh an existing border or create a newly planted area. 

3D rendering of the finished garden – around £500 per image depending on complexity. I offer an artist’s impression of your design for an additional fee. This is not essential to the design work but the images will help you to picture the finished garden and will be yours to keep once completed. For a large garden you may want multiple images.

Plant sourcing and delivery – priced per hour at a rate of £250 per day. I can order chosen plants for you from my trusted suppliers and I can take delivery of plants at your property on your behalf. I work with a team of experienced gardeners who can prepare your ground and carry out planting if you do not wish to do it yourself. They work with me on a freelance basis at competitive rates so they charge separately for their services.
